FISHING REPORT 20TH MARCH 2010
Angling
Shore anglers have not been treated kindly this summer season as many of the expected fish that frequent the KZN coastline, namely big sand sharks have simply not appeared although a few smaller specimens have been landed. Anglers targeting diamonds have had a reasonable season with quite a few specimens being landed at most known spots. With autumn on our doorstep anglers can start looking forward to the garrick run and hopefully a sardine run will materialize this year.
The weather man predicts some strong swells this week end together with South Westerly winds which could make for some trying conditions for anglers. Fishing during the course of last week picked up quite nicely as good weather combined with low swell produced some good results. Shad are now starting to come out on a more regular basis and a few very un-seasonal monster shad have been reported from the South Coast areas.
Pompano are still on the bite and good reports of these fish are coming from the Pennington and Sezella areas in the south. Quite a few fair size yellow-fin kingfish and queen fish are coming out along the Umgababa stretch as well as good reports of these kingfish coming from the Cutting and Treasure beach areas. As far as flatfish are concerned, anglers targeting them are still having a great season, mainly due to persistent easterly winds combined with brown water and low swells.
